Hi there everyone.

I have previously made mention of Michael J Fox’s book Always Looking Up, but as I have continued ( if at a snail’s pace ) reading this book on my Kindle, I have really come to appreciate what Michael has gone through, what he has done and continues to do for Parkinson’s Disease, and most importantly, I have found his writing to have hit home for me, with what I face everyday.

While the diseases we have differ from one another, there seems to be a sort of kinship if you will as far as our approach to how we both ( and quite possibly you ) have decided to deal with disease…in other words, as I always state, not letting the disease define who we are but rather shifting gears and doing some sort of advocacy work in order to bring more awareness to the diseases we have.

The book itself so far has focused on Fox’s political battles while promoting awareness, his meetings with religious leaders, and of course some of the high moments in his family life.

Funny, Engaging, Poignant, Real life….these are just some of the words that I can associate with Always Looking Up, and I’m sure that you will be able to come up with a few of your own words too.

Unfortunately I can’t recall the title of the first book I read after receiveing my CSS diagnosis, but it was written by a doctor who’s message was the importance of staying mentally on top of whatever medical challenge someone may face. The power of a positive attitude, laughter, priortizing and releiving personal pressure are essential to the quality of one’s recovery.

I totally agree with you Robert.

Last year, I did not read any books that could be termed ” Inspirational ” in any sense of the word after I was diagnosed, and this past summer, before my wife and I took what might be our last vacation for quite a while, she had mentioned that Fox’s special on the Learning Channel was airing…so I watched and the rest was the nudge that was my desire to start down the path of advocacy, and while I know that this will be a long and sometimes winding road to travel…I think that it will be a rewarding road to travel down…and of course time will be the judge.
