Hi Everyone…I want to share a little tale with you…
Before my diagnosis last year of Churg Strauss Syndrome back in November of 07, I had a serious ( although I did not think so at the time ) issue with Nasal Polyps.
This was just a few months after my mother’s passing, and I was starting to have some issues with breathing through my nose. My nasal passages would become clogged up on a regular basis, and I would eventually go to later on what would become a second home to me….Crystal Run Medical, and see doctor Lissette Giraud, a specialist of Otolaryngology, and after a pretty uncomfortable examination of my nasal passages, she informed me that I had Nasal Polyps and that we would try to treat them with a steroid…guess which one…
My little white pill buddy, that’s right Prednisone, and this would be my first exposure to prednisone ( and unfortunately not my last either ) and I would be on this for almost three weeks, and after the prescription ran it’s course ( about four weeks ) I went back and my polyps were cleared up.
I thought okay, that’s fine and went about my merry way.
Well in February of 08, the polyps would return, and then after another treatment with prednisone, and then another recurrence, it was time for another plan of action..surgery.
Well, to make a long story short, the surgery never happened…but not from lack of trying to have it done…anyway, what I want to do is point you all to this post on the blog Discussing Allergic Rhinitis which has a post that is ( of course ) called Detailed Information on Nasal Polyposis, and here is a small part of the post below..
Nasal polyps can vary significantly in size. There may be only one but sometimes several develop like a ’small bunch of grapes’ on a stem. Polyps usually affect both nostrils. Nasal polyps can vary greatly in size. There may be only one but sometimes several grow like a ’small bunch of grapes’ on a stem. The cause of the inflammation is certain conditions make nose inflammation and polyps more likely. These include: asthma, allergy to Discussing Allergic Rhinitis, cystic fibrosis, and some rare conditions of the nose. Nasal polyps can occur along with many other respiratory diseases, such as allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, asthma, and aspirin allergy.
Nasal polyps also occur in a majority of people with Churg-Strauss syndrome, a rare disease that inflames the blood vessels (vasculitis). Nasal polyps occur in around 1 in 200 people.
Please notice the area above where I high lighted the text in bold, blue italics…what I would say to anyone reading this post who has never heard of Churg Strauss or Vasculitis and you are having the same issues I was having a few years back take a closer look at those nasal polyps, as they just might be a precursor to something a little more serious.

I have had major problems with my nose/nasal polyps for years. I also had surgery twice and I’m heading towards a third. Although I’m off the oral steroids, I’m still taking steroid nasal spray. It’s a pain in the a**!
Hi Tamara.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment here. At least for now I have had no re-ocurances with the issue, but of course I am still on Prednisone. I can only wonder what might occur if and when I am finally off of prednisone…
