Tapering Of Prednisone And My Own Prednisone Battle

Posted by Lew on September 1, 2010

Hi and thanks so much for returning to my blog. RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Hi there everyone.

Tapering off of Prednisone is a pretty complicated subject in my opinion because of some of the different ways of doing it.

Just the other day I received something from someone who may no longer be  a Facebook member as to an article that she had found on tapering ( weaning ) off of Prednisone…

I read this article last week and found it interesting so am passing along.  I know many of us are on a maintenance dose of Prednisone and are okay with this but for those that would like to be off of it I think this way of tapering may make it possible.  I am down to 3 mg now and the way I did it was like this:

- Above 5 mg I would drop by 2.5 mg when my body completely adjusted to the change in dose.  Sometimes this would take over a month but I wouldn’t budge until I felt one hundred percent back to normal.  Meaning, I had no night sweats, no fevers, no need for allergy pills, no need for TUMS, no pain in my joints, no muscle pain, no numbness, no mucus, etc. etc.  Long battle but my dose did get lower with time.

Churg Strauss, Prednisone And My Lack Of Teeth

Posted by Lew on August 3, 2010

I’ve come to realize that ever since I’ve been on prednisone, that I have had some serious issues with my chompers ( that teeth for the rest of you out there ) and here is just another of those things that makes the use of prednisone a double edged sword.

While the dreaded prednisone keeps my condition in check, it also seems to have this one really terrible side effect…it slowly but surely seems to just eat away at our CALCIUM!

Before I get to my teeth issues let’s take a look at one of the main things that prednisone can cause…

Churg Strauss; Mood Swings And Prednisone Use

Posted by Lew on July 27, 2010

What? What do you mean I’m moody?! I’m not moody…I’m on Prednisone!

Don’t laugh at the sentence, as this is something that some people experience while on prednisone.

At least for now, prednisone is the main ” Go To ” drug of choice when it comes to treating Churg Strauss and some of it’s other interesting complications such as Asthma.

From this point forward in this article, I am speaking to my own expierence so take this just for what it is…

I have been on this great little drug for better than two years now as I was actually using it to a much lesser extant a few months before I was diagnosed with CSS for the treatment of my Nasal Polyps, one of several pre cursors I have lived with over the years before my eventual CSS diagnosis and while I have always been somewhat ( stop laughing! ) moody, I have noticed that prednisone only makes the issue worse. But before I speak further to this let me just back this up just a bit with some other folks ( who will remain anonymous ) experiences in this area… WAIT! There is more to read… read on »

Can Your Nasal Polyps Be A Precusor To CSS?

Posted by Lew on December 8, 2009

Hi Everyone…I want to share a little tale with you…

Before my diagnosis last year of Churg Strauss Syndrome back in November of 07,  I had a serious ( although I did not think so at the time )  issue with Nasal Polyps.

This was just a few months after my mother’s passing, and I was starting to have some issues with breathing through my nose. My nasal passages would become clogged up on a regular basis, and I would eventually go to later on what would become a second home to me….Crystal Run Medical, and see doctor Lissette Giraud, a specialist of Otolaryngology, and after a pretty uncomfortable examination of my nasal passages, she informed me that I had Nasal Polyps and that we would try to treat them with a steroid…guess which one…

My little white pill buddy, that’s right Prednisone, and this would be my first exposure to prednisone ( and unfortunately not my last either ) and I would be on this for almost three weeks, and after the prescription ran it’s course ( about four weeks ) I went back and my polyps were cleared up.

Churg Strauss And The Tapering Of Prednisone Part Two

Posted by Lew on September 24, 2009

Hi there and welcome to Part Two of this series on Churg Strauss And The Tapering Of Prednisone.

In part one of this series, I had focused on what I am currently doing as far as my own Prednisone Taper, but what I will touch upon now is something that I came across on one of the forums and is taken from someone who was on a Taper Routine that was done differently.

I will not be revealing this person’s name, but I will be using some of the info listed as reference…

Now this person was on a taper that at the end was done using alternative day dosing and below is how the goal of getting off Prednisone was achieved by this individual WAIT! There is more to read… read on »
